"How much will cameras cost?" is the first question almost every business owner asks us, and the honest answer is that it depends on a handful of things you can control. The number of cameras matters, but so do the cable runs, the ceiling heights, the recorder and how long you want to keep footage.
This guide breaks down security camera installation cost for businesses in Toronto and the GTA in 2026. You will see the price range we charge at TechBoss, what moves a quote up or down, where people overspend and where cutting corners costs more later. If you already know you want a system, our CCTV and IP camera installation service page explains what we install.
Use it to build a realistic budget before you call anyone, and to compare quotes on equal terms once they arrive.
Security Camera Installation Cost at TechBoss
A professionally installed camera system at TechBoss costs $500 to $5,000 or more, with per-camera pricing. That covers commercial 4K surveillance systems with cloud or local recording, so the CCTV installation price you see in your quote includes the cameras, the recorder and the labour.
The low end of that range is a small system: a few cameras on a short run, close to the recorder, in a building with easy ceilings. The high end and beyond is a larger commercial site with many cameras, long cable runs, outdoor positions and extra storage. Multi-building sites and large warehouses can go above $5,000.
If you want someone to watch over the system after it is installed, ongoing CCTV monitoring and maintenance costs $99 to $499 a month, depending on the size of the system and what you need covered. You can see both prices, and everything else we charge, on our pricing page.
Why Camera Installation Cost Is Priced Per Camera
We price per camera because each camera position is its own small job. Every one needs a cable run back to the recorder or a network switch, a mount, a weatherproof connection if it is outdoors, and time on a ladder or lift to aim it properly.
Per-camera pricing also makes quotes easy to compare. If one installer quotes eight cameras and another quotes twelve, you can see the difference line by line instead of guessing what a single lump sum includes. When you collect quotes, ask each company to list the camera count, the camera model, the recorder and the storage, so you are comparing the same system.
The Seven Things That Change Your Quote
Two businesses with the same number of cameras can get very different quotes. These are the factors that make the difference:
- Number of cameras. The biggest single factor. Start from what you need to see and prove, then count cameras, not the other way around.
- Camera type and resolution. A fixed 4MP dome costs less than a 4K varifocal bullet with a long infrared range. Cameras for long aisles, parking lots or licence plates need more lens and sensor.
- Indoor or outdoor. Outdoor cameras need weatherproof housings, a temperature rating for an Ontario winter and sealed cable entries.
- Cable run length and route. A camera ten metres from the network closet is quick. A camera at the far end of a building, through firewalls and over drop ceilings, takes longer.
- Ceiling height and access. Cameras above about 20 feet often need a scissor lift, which adds rental and setup time.
- Recording and storage. More cameras, higher resolution and longer retention all need more hard drive space in the recorder. Cloud recording adds its own cost.
- Existing cabling. If good network cable is already in place, we can often reuse it. If not, new cabling is priced at $150 to $300 per drop.
Commercial Security Camera Cost by System Size
These examples show how the price range maps to real business premises in Toronto, Mississauga and Vaughan. They are general guides, not quotes. Your price comes from a site survey.
- Small shop or office (2 to 4 cameras): entrance, cash or reception area, back door and perhaps one outdoor camera. Short runs and a compact recorder. This sits at the lower end of our range.
- Restaurant, clinic or larger office (6 to 12 cameras): all entrances, the main floor, storage, the parking area and a server or network room. Mid-range pricing.
- Warehouse, plant or multi-unit site (16 cameras and up): docks, aisles, yard, perimeter and high-value storage, often with 4K and varifocal cameras and lifts for high ceilings. Upper end and above. Our warehouse camera installation guide covers this in detail.
What a Proper Installation Includes
A low quote can look attractive until you find out what it leaves out. A complete installation should include:
- a site survey and a coverage plan showing where each camera goes and what it sees
- the cameras, the recorder (NVR) and enough hard drive storage for your retention period
- cabling, mounting hardware, junction boxes and weatherproofing
- aiming and focusing each camera, then checking the image in daylight and at night
- setting up motion detection, alerts and user accounts
- setting up the mobile app on your phones so you can view live video and play back footage
- showing your team how to find and export a clip when they need one
- a warranty on the work
Every TechBoss installation comes with a 1-year warranty. Ask any installer you are comparing what their warranty covers and for how long.
IP vs. Analogue: How the Choice Affects Cost
Analogue (coaxial) systems used to be the budget option. Today almost every commercial system we install is IP, because IP cameras deliver higher resolution, use one network cable for power and video (Power over Ethernet), and are easier to expand later.
If you already have analogue cameras on coaxial cable, replacing only the recorder can sometimes extend the life of the system. But if the picture is poor, a full IP upgrade is often better value over a few years. Our comparison of IP vs. analogue security cameras walks through the trade-offs.
Where Businesses Overspend and Where They Cut Too Much
Some common mistakes we see on site surveys across the GTA:
- Too many cameras on the wrong spots. Ten wide shots of empty hallways are less useful than four well-aimed cameras on doors, tills and docks.
- Buying 4K everywhere. 4K is worth it for parking lots, long aisles and wide areas. A small reception area often does fine with 4MP, and lower resolution means less storage.
- Too little storage. A recorder that only holds a few days of footage may have already overwritten the clip you need by the time you notice a problem.
- Consumer Wi-Fi cameras in a business. They are cheap to buy but depend on your Wi-Fi and batteries, and they are hard to manage at scale. Wired PoE cameras are more reliable.
- Skipping the outdoor rating. An indoor camera mounted under an eave will fail after a winter or two.
Ongoing Costs After Installation
The installation is a one-time cost. After that, the main ongoing costs are:
- Monitoring and maintenance: $99 to $499 a month at TechBoss if you choose a plan. This can cover health checks on cameras and drives, firmware updates and help retrieving footage.
- Cloud recording, if you choose it, for an off-site copy of important cameras.
- Hard drive replacement every few years, since recorder drives run around the clock.
You do not have to sign up for monitoring to buy a system. Many small businesses run their own system with the mobile app and call us only when they need help.
Privacy Rules Before You Switch the Cameras On
Cameras at a business in Ontario come with a few basic obligations. Post clear signs at entrances saying the premises are under video surveillance. Keep cameras out of washrooms and change rooms. Decide who may view footage and how long you keep it. If you have 25 or more employees in Ontario, the Employment Standards Act requires a written policy on electronic monitoring of employees. Footage of customers is personal information, and our PIPEDA compliance checklist explains how to handle it. This is general information, not legal advice.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does security camera installation cost in Toronto?
At TechBoss, a business system costs $500 to $5,000 or more, priced per camera. A single camera still needs a recorder or cloud plan, a cable run and setup, so the per-camera cost is higher on very small systems.
Is the quote fixed or will it change?
After the free site survey you get a fixed written quote. It lists the cameras, recorder, storage and cabling, so the price does not change halfway through the job unless you ask for more.
Can you add cameras to an existing CCTV system?
Often, yes. On the site survey we check your current recorder, cameras and cable. If they are compatible and in good shape, we add to what you have instead of replacing it.
Do business security cameras have a monthly fee?
No. Monitoring and maintenance at $99 to $499 a month is optional. Cloud recording has its own cost if you choose it, but a system with local recording can run without a monthly plan.
How many days of footage should I keep?
Most businesses aim for at least two to four weeks, so footage is still there when a problem is noticed late. More cameras and higher resolution need more storage for the same number of days, and your quote sizes the drives to match.
