Job Description

TechBoss is looking for a reliable and skilled Part-Time Field Technician to join our dispatch-based operations. You will travel to various client locations across the Ottawa (and occasionally across Ontario and other Canadian provinces) to deliver on-site IT support, network installations, cabling, and infrastructure services. This role is ideal for a motivated self-starter who thrives in hands-on environments and takes pride in quality workmanship.

Key Responsibilities

  • Travel to assigned client sites based on dispatch schedules to perform on-site IT services
  • Install, terminate, test, and certify structured cabling systems (Cat5e, Cat6/6A, fibre optic)
  • Set up and configure network equipment including routers, switches, access points, and firewalls
  • Perform hardware installation, troubleshooting, and break/fix support for desktops, laptops, printers, and peripheral devices
  • Install and mount low-voltage equipment such as security cameras, access control systems, and AV components
  • Conduct site surveys and document network infrastructure for project planning
  • Rack and stack servers, patch panels, and other data centre / IDF / MDF equipment
  • Test and label all cable runs to industry standards (TIA/EIA) and produce accurate as-built documentation
  • Communicate professionally with clients and provide clear status updates to the operations team
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area at every client site
  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations, including working at heights and in confined spaces where required

Requirements


  • CompTIA A+ certification (or actively pursuing — must hold valid credential within 90 days of hire)
  • Valid driver's licence
  • Access to a reliable personal vehicle for daily dispatch travel to client locations
  • Ability to commute across the Fredericton and occasionally travel to other regions in New Brunswick or Canada
  • Strong working knowledge of PC hardware, operating systems (Windows 10/11, macOS), and basic networking (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP)
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Professional demeanour, punctuality, and strong verbal communication skills
  • Must be legally authorized to work in Canada
